Although some of us might speculate about how we will spend our last day on earth, most of us won’t give it a second thought.
But Yeshua* had no doubt that Passover was His appointed time to die. For thirty-three years the traditional recounting of the story of His people, and the ceremonious slaying of the lamb in His own home had prepared Him for it.
This is why, when the Seder meal was over, Yeshua stepped out boldly into the night to fulfill His destiny. As He walked towards those who would arrest Him wrapped in His prayer shawl, He sang from the psalms: “This is the day that Adonai has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it”.
Though we can be sure that our last day will be unique and irrevocable, it will not compare to His. But how we live our final hours will depend very much on how we too submit ourselves to God’s plan for our lives and rejoice in it every day.
* Yeshua is the Hebrew name of Jesus.
