Eden is not a myth. It was a real place! And its location is to be found here on earth, even if it has yet to be identified.
In fact, most geologists agree that Eden must have been situated in the Fertile Crescent of the Middle East. This is the moist and luxuriant land around the Tigris and the Euphrates rivers mentioned in Genesis. So it is no coincidence that the name “Eden” is related to an Aramaic word which means “fruitful” and “well-watered”!
Even more significantly, the Fertile Crescent covers the land God originally promised to Abraham, Isaac Jacob and their descendants. This was the bountiful land of milk and honey that stretched from the Vadi of Egypt to the great river Euphrates. Beyond modern day Israel it included parts of Lebanon, Syria and Jordan, as we know them today. (Genesis 15:18; Deuteronomy 1:7, Numbers 34:7-9)
This suggests that Eden and the Promised Land may be one and the same. If it is, this would make an astounding earthly connection between Adam and Yeshua*, the second Adam. It would also make an intriguing connection between Genesis and Revelation. And it would mean that when Yeshua returns, He would reign on earth from the Ancient Garden where He first walked with man!
* Yeshua is the Hebrew name of Jesus.
